Looks like he was working in the off season. I wonder what his job was?

Back in the days, most ALL ballplayers worked between seasons...back when sports were sports, not businesses.

He looks more like a foot ball player than baseball

That's a railroad baggage wagon for passenger trains. My job during the mid-sixties was baggage man / mail handler for the IC and the wagons were the same then too.

The title is a little confusing.

This is not Cy Young! It's "young Cy Young", who lost 21 games for the Boston Braves in the same year that the real Cy Young pitched for the Boston Americans. You can check it out on Google.

      It's a wonderful picture anyway.

Jack Lo P.: Sorry for the confusion. Even though there was a note in the catalog description to provide the full name of Irving Melrose, it sounds like we need to follow Kayak49's advice and add "Irv Young" directly to the title. Will do!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Black and White Portraits/Denver, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

re the title. the only move which would begin to achieve clarity is to remove the quotation marks from "Cy". if the marks remain then everyman in the US is going to assume it is "the" Cy Young.

While using quotation marks around a nickname is proper, what could excuse their removal in this instance is the fact that he seems to have half a dozen names. obviously not all of them are his Proper name. If the marks are not removed then alternatively they may also be candidates for quotation marks if following standard punctuation since alias are enclosed. Enclosing them may show everyman that this is "a" Cy Young rather than "the" Cy Young.

and speaking of baseball, great catch on it being a railroad baggage car.

CakesPix: Thanks for your suggestion. We'll have to keep the title "as is" here since we transcribe titles exactly as they appear on the item, and then provide additional clarification in brackets or with a note.
