The Director for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access at the Library of Congress recently announced that the Library would cease to provide controlled series access in the bibliographic records that its catalogers produce. The effective date for this change was announced as May 1, 2006. Responses from constituent organizations and libraries indicated that the short time between the announcement and the implementation date would cause undue hardship and, in some cases, would mean that the institutions would not be ready to accept bibliographic records without controlled series access. To accommodate these concerns, the Library will delay its implementation until June 1, 2006.
