Weekdays except 7-10 a.m. and 4-7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays all day. For the safety, comfort, and convenience of all passengers, please follow these guidelines for transporting your bicycle into the Metrorail system. Bicycles are permitted all day Saturday and Sunday as well as most holidays (limited to four bicycles per car).

Bicycles are not permitted on Metrorail on July 4th or other special events or holidays when large crowds use the system.

Folded bicycles are allowed on Metrorail during all operational hours, but must remain folded and securely fastened during weekday peak hours: 7-10 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Enter and exit through the first and last, not the center emergency, doors of each rail car.

    Bring Your Bike on Metrobus

The front of every Metrobus has a rack for two bikes. Load your bike, and go! You can transport your bicycle aboard Metrobus in quality, heavy-duty racks attached to the front of each bus. Load and unload your bike by following the instructions affixed to the racks. A locking mechanism will prevent your bike from coming loose. Up to two bicycles can be stored in each rack, and spaces in the racks are used on a "first come, first served" basis.

For detailed instructions on how to use the Metrobus bicycle racks, please see our instructions for how to use Metrobus bicycle racks.

For safety, buses have special mirrors that allow bus operators to see the bicycle racks and riders loading bicycles. There is no additional fee for riders to bring their bicycles on a bus or railcar.

Folded bicycles are allowed aboard a Metrobus as long as they remain folded and inside a sturdy (nylon, canvas, leather, etc) carrying case or bag.

Park Your Bike at a Metrorail Station

Many Metro stations have bicycle racks for free, and lockers for rent, so you can ride your bicycle to a station, leave it there, and take Metrorail or Metrobus. Most stations have bicycle racks for free on a "first-come, first-use" basis; some stations have lockers for rent. Consult station information to check bike facilities at each Metrorail station.

    Bicycle Racks

Metro currently owns and operates about 1,700 bicycle racks, and is replacing older racks with new inverted-U racks.

Please do not lock your bicycle to railings, sign posts, benches, and other unauthorized areas around stations. Such bicycles are subject to removal without notification.

    Bicycle Lockers

Bicycle lockers provide secure bicycle parking by improving protection from theft, vandalism, and inclement weather. The lockers are designed to hold one bicycle each as well as bicycle gear. Metro currently owns and operates about 1,280 bicycle lockers.

Users receive one key that will only open one locker; each locker has a unique lock and key. The space inside is approximately: 1.2m (4 feet) high x 1.9m (6 feet, 5 inches) deep x 0.9m (3 feet) wide at the door and narrows toward the back of the locker. Most standard bicycles will fit inside. Longer bicycles such as tandem bikes or some recumbent bikes will not fit into the lockers.

To rent a locker at one of our stations, send us an email providing your name, address, contact phone number, email address, and station of interest. All locker rentals cost $120 per year, and are subject to availability. For more information on the number of racks and lockers offered at individual stations, see individual station information.
