Ms. Adams graduated from Clarkson College of Technology in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Upon graduation, Ms. Adams was employed as a civilian employee with the Department of Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD. For the first 10 years of her career, Ms. Adams held various positions in production and pre-production of ordnance. In 1993, Ms. Adams was promoted to Environmental Director and in 1996 to Safety Department Head. During her tenure, the Indian Head Division received a number of safety and environmental awards including the Navy Safety Award, the Department of Defense Environmental Quality Award (twice) and the Department of Defense Natural Resources Award.

Ms. Adams joined the Architect of the Capitol in January 2001, as Executive Officer for Facilities Management. Her duties included management of AOC’s safety, fire and environmental programs as well as management of the Thurgood Marshal Federal Judiciary Building and the AOC’s Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) initiative. AOC organizational restructuring resulted in creation of the Office of Safety, Fire and Environmental Programs. As Director, Ms. Adams is responsible for management of these agency programs as well as the agency’s internal emergency preparedness program and the CAFM initiative.
