Mike Burke

Mike Burke is the Digital Projects Planning Manager for the Copyright Office. He joined the Library in 1979 as head of the Copyright Section in what is now Information Technology Services. In 1983 he moved to the Copyright Office where he established and grew the Copyright Technology Office and for 25 years led the development of major Copyright systems including electronic filing of claims. He pioneered the use of personal computers and networking in the Copyright Office in the 1980’s and kept the Office on the cutting edge of technology. He is presently leading the effort to digitize the pre-1978 paper and microfilm records of the Copyright Office and to make them widely available over the web. Mike holds a BS degree from George Washington University and a Master of Information Systems degree from Virginia Tech.
