These sites, the legacy of past decades of irresponsible mining, today threaten the foundation of much of our outdoor economy and what makes our state great: our land and water.

Udall Heralds Successful Effort to Extend Wind Production Tax Credit
Mark Udall, who serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, welcomed the one-year extension of the Production Tax Credit for wind energy — a grassroots cause he championed in Colorado and on the floor of the U.S. Senate — included in the bipartisan deal to prevent taxes from rising for the middle class and working families. The one-year extension of the credit gives manufacturers in Colorado and throughout North America the signal they need to create jobs, make capital investments in the United States, and ensure that wind energy remains a strong part of our national energy strategy.

Udall Welcomes Bipartisan Agreement to Protect Middle Class, Pledges to Pursue Long-Term Fiscal Solution in 2013
Mark Udall welcomed the U.S. Senate's passage today of a deal to address a series of automatic tax increases for the middle class, but he called on his colleagues to resume work on a longer term, comprehensive deal on the deficit when Congress returns to work in 2013. Udall also heralded that the deal includes a one-year extension of the wind Production Tax Credit — an effort he led in the Senate — which supports thousands of jobs in Colorado and across the country.

Colorado Lawmakers Welcome Senate Passage of Bill to Boost Watershed Protection Funds
Senator Mark Udall and members of the Colorado congressional delegation welcomed the U.S. Senate's passage today of the Supplemental Appropriation for Disaster Assistance, which includes a proposed $125 million to support Colorado's watershed recovery efforts following this year's wildfire season. The bill must now pass the U.S. House of Representatives.

Udall Criticizes Senate's Decision to Not Brace for 2013 Wildfires
Mark Udall criticized the U.S. Senate's decision today to reject an amendment he and Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.) introduced, which would have fully funded the U.S. Forest Service's Wildland Fire Management Fund ahead of the 2013 wildfire season. Udall said next year’s fire season is coming, whether or not the federal government want to prepare for it. In fact, next year's fire season is expected to be even more severe than the 2012 season that produced the two most destructive wildfires in Colorado history, the High Park and Waldo Canyon fires.

Udall Questions Prudence of Long-Term Extension of Surveillance Law
Mark Udall said he is disappointed that the U.S. Senate declined to amend the FISA Amendments Act today to force the federal government to disclose if Americans' calls and emails are being searched without a judge's approval. In part because Congress failed to address this loophole, Udall opposed the extension, saying Congress must do a better job balancing national security and our constitutional liberties.

Mark Udall spoke on the Senate floor this morning pushing Congress to pass an extension of the Production Tax Credit for wind energy. In his 27th speech, Udall focused on the economic impacts of wind energy production in New Mexico - where wind energy supports more than 500 good-paying jobs and powers more than 200,000 homes. Udall was followed by Sen. Tom Udall of New Mexico, who also highlighted the wind industry's benefits for job creation and energy security. Udall will continue to urge his Senate colleagues to pass the wind Production Tax Credit.
