National Book Festival

James H. Billington is the 13th Librarian of Congress and has headed the Library since 1987. In 2000, the Library of Congress National Book Festival was created under his leadership with Laura Bush. Billington has been instrumental in making the Library’s vast collections accessible to all Americans, especially through its website at loc.gov. He is also originator of the idea that led to creation of the World Digital Library (wdl.org), among his many other initiatives.
