Acquisition Streamlining and Standardization Information System (ASSIST)
Coverage: Various Dates

   Provides direct access to Defense and Federal specifications and standards available in the official DoD repository. It is part of the The Department of Defense Single Stock Point for Military Specifications, Standards and Related Publications - DODSSP.

ADS: NASA Astrophysics Data System
Coverage: Various Dates

The Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a NASA-funded project which maintains four bibliographic databases containing almost 4 million records: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Instrumentation, Physics and Geophysics, and preprints in Astronomy. Include links to scanned images of over 40,000 journal articles appearing in the major astronomy and astrophysics journals. Also provides access/pointers to astronomical data catalogs and data archives.

The U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) Data Services provides data for:

AERADE Reports Archive
Coverage: Various Dates

The Aerade Reports Archive contains more than ten thousand, historically significant, digitised reports from the Aeronautical Research Council (ARC) and the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The Aeronautical Research Council was the principal agency in Great Britain producing reports on matters aeronautical from 1909-1979.

AGRICOLA
Coverage: Materials dating from the 16th century to present

Describes journal articles, book chapters, monographs, conference proceedings, serials, technical reports, and other materials encompassing all aspects of agriculture, forestry, and animal science acquired by the National Agricultural Library and cooperating institutions.

Also visit the National Agricultural Library Digital Repository NALDR , which provides access to publications either digitized by NAL or through NAL’s partnerships with other institutions. The majority of the publications available in the NALDR were published by the USDA. Examples include the Agriculture Information Bulletin, the Agricultural Economic Report, and the Yearbook of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Coverage: Various Dates

Sponsored by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the site provides a series of guides and technical notes for ventilation and air infiltration in buildings, as well as a comprehensive database on literature standards and ventilation data.

Alaska & Polar Periodical Index
Coverage: 19th century to present

The index cites articles in English about Alaska, northern Canada, northern Scandinavia, the Russian Far East, and Antarctica. More than 150,000 articles are covered, with 5,000 added each year; most articles are not in any other index. Coverage is strong from the 1980s to the present. There are articles from key periodicals such as "National Geographic" (1890 to present), "Alaska Life: the Territorial Magazine" (1938-1946), the University of Alaska student newspaper "Farthest North Collegian" (1923-1958), etc.

Coverage: 1991 to present

Provides open access to over half a million e-prints in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance and Statistics.  ArXiv is a fully automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers which functions as a means of communicating ongoing research information in these subject areas. BSIR is a catalog of government documents made available by the Federal Government after World War II. The early PB-number reports include documents critical to the understanding of the history of modern electronics, aeronautics, and chemistry and to the understanding of technology transfer from the former Axis powers after World War II.

Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information
Coverage: Various Dates

CISTI includes published information from around the world in all areas of physical and life sciences, engineering, technology and health sciences. The CISTI collection contains: over 50,000 different serial titles; over 600,000 books, conference proceedings and technical reports; 2 million technical reports on microfiche from around the world; and journals from the world's leading scientific publishers with links directly to the journal Web site.

The CISTI Catalogue also includes the records for the Canadian Agriculture Library (CAL), Main Library. CAL's collection of more than 30,000 serial titles and 60,000 books, reports and conference proceedings provides access to world-wide agricultural information.

Cold Regions Bibliographies
Coverage: 1950's to present

Search the Antarctic Bibliography and the Bibliography on Cold Regions Science and Technology databases for materials on the science and technology of the world's cold regions.  Together, these bibliographies contain over 200,000 records, many with abstracts, from journal articles, monographs, technical reports, conference proceedings and "grey" literature.

  • The Antarctic Bibliography covers all disciplines related to the region including biological and geological sciences, medical sciences, meteorology, oceanography, atmospheric and terrestrial physics, expeditions, logistics equipment and supplies, and tourism.
  • The Bibliography on Cold Regions Science and Technology includes references to scientific and engineering research related to material and operations in a winter battlefield, the nature and impact of cold on facilities and activities, cold-related environmental problems, and the impact of human activity on cold environments.

Consolidated Index of Army Publications and Forms

DA PAM 25-30 contains records of current and obsolete publications and blank forms published by the Army, other Military Services, Department of Defense activities, and other Government agencies and activities, and other Government agencies and activities.

The Library of Congress Technical Reports & Standards Section has a large comprehensive collection of military standards and specifications, both current and retrospective. Contrails

Contains over 2,600 Air Force Technical Reports related to aerospace research conducted or collected at the Wright Air Development Center (WADC). Also includes historical resources which served as sources for the Historical Overview of the Wright Air Development Center, including the full text of The Roswell report : case closed , by James McAndrew, Department of the Air Force, 1997.

Find, download, and use data sets that are generated and held by the Federal Government. Data.gov provides descriptions of the Federal data sets (metadata), information about how to access the data sets, and tools that leverage government data sets. The data catalogs will continue to grow as data sets are added.

Declassified Documents Reference System

Provides full-text access to over 500,000 pages of previously classified government documents. Covering major post-World War II era international events from the Cold War to the Vietnam War and beyond, this source enables users to locate a selection of US government documents from the Central Intelligence Agency, the State Department, the Department of Defense, the National Security Council, the White House, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as many other government agencies. The documents range in size and scope from telegrams, correspondence, and unevaluated field reports, to lengthy background studies and detailed minutes of cabinet-level meetings.

Development Experience Clearinghouse Database

DEC contains records for over 124,000 USAID technical and program documents with over 30,000 available for electronic download.

Directory of Open Access Repositories

OpenDOAR provides descriptions and access to hundreds of institutional and subject-based repositories. Repositories are categorised by their policies regarding peer-reviewed/non-peer-reviewed material, their subject coverage, the constituency they draw on for content, the envisaged constituencies they serve, their collection and preservation policies, etc.

OpenDOAR is a joint collaboration between the University of Nottingham in the UK and Lund University in Sweden. Also try:

DiVA Academic Archive

DiVA, the Digital Scientific Archive (Digitala Vetenskapliga Arkivet in Swedish), contains over 6,600 documents, including full-text doctoral theses, dissertations, monographs, and undergraduate theses from a number of Nordic universities.

Docuticker

DocuTicker provides links to full text reports and publications from government agencies, NGOs, think tanks and other public interest organizations.

DOE Data Explorer
Coverage: Various Dates

The DDE finds scientific research data - such as computer simulations, numeric data files, figures and plots, interactive maps, multimedia, and scientific images - generated in the course of DOE-sponsored research in various science disciplines. The DOE Data Explorer includes a database of citations prepared by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) based on the information found at data-hosting Web sites.

Users may browse or search the database, then link to a data collection where it resides. The publicly available data collections support DOE research results that are well documented in journal articles, conference literature, and technical reports. Key DOE databases of R&D information are searchable through the Science Accelerator. The DOE Data Explorer will include enhanced search capabilities across specialized Web sites as it continues to grow. Also watch scientific videos highlighting research and development sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy through ScienceCinema.

DOE Green Energy

Contains both current and historical research, including bibliographic citations, technical reports and patent information on different types of renewable energy resources and energy conservation. Subject areas include but are not limited to solar, wind, bioenergy, hydroelectric, geothermal, tidal and wave power, and energy storage. Contains nearly two million reports in print and nonprint (software, data files, databases and video recordings) format conveying the results of Defense-sponsored research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) efforts. Grey Literature has been defined on the Grey Literature Network Service as "Information produced on all levels of government, academics, business and industry in electronic and print formats not controlled by commercial publishing, i.e. where publishing is not the primary activity of the producing body." (Luxembourg, 1997 - New York, 2004, GL conferences).

OTA Archive
Coverage: 1974 - 1995

Contains the complete collection of the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) publications. The OTA closed on September 29, 1995, but during its 23-year history, the office provided Congressional members and committees analysis of complex scientific and technical issues of the late 20th century. The site, maintained at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, also includes additional materials that illuminate the history and impact of the agency. Technical Report Archive and Image Library

TRAIL includes digitized versions of the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Monograph Series covering the technical literature on various subjects. These detailed reports, published between 1959 and 1982, include materials data, mathematical functions, time series, diffraction patterns, measurements, standards, methods and much more. United States Geological Survey Publications Warehouse

The USGS reports and thematic maps database contains more than 61,000 bibliographic citations, including numbered series begun as early as 1882. Availability of content ranges from full text to bibliographic citation only. A number of Biological Resources Discipline report citations, primarily historical research reports, are included. These citations include reports released by the Fish and Wildlife Service as well as the National Biological Survey prior to the creation of the Biological Resources Division of the USGS. WIND is a bibliographic database covering the effects of energy development (including towers, power lines, and other wires) on birds. The effects of wind energy development on birds include mortality factors such as collision and electrocution, and impacts on nesting, foraging, roosting/loafing, and other bird disturbances. The database also contains documents on the potential impacts of wind energy development on humans, including visual and noise disturbances. World Data Center for Marine Environmental Sciences

WDC-MARE collects, scrutinizes, and disseminates data related to Global Change in the fields of environmental oceanography, marine geosciences, and marine biology. It focuses on georeferenced data (numeric, text, and any kind of binary objects) using the PANGAEA information system as its long-term archive and publication unit.

Worldwide Incidents Tracking System

The National Counterterrorism Center’s database of terrorist incidents. According to the NCTC definition, terrorism occurs when groups or individuals acting on political motivation deliberately or recklessly attack civilians/non-combatants or their property and the attack does not fall into another special category of political violence, such as crime, rioting, or tribal violence.
