Nineteen 10-inch tapes (copied from 825 wax cylinders) recorded by Robert Winslow Gordon 1922-1928 in California, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Represents a cross section of American folksong including Negro blues, spirituals, and ballads, British-American ballads, gospel singing, sea chanties, recitations, and miscellaneous recordings such as the inauguration of President Coolidge. AFC 1957/008: Frank A. Hoffmann Collection of Migrant Worker and Blanche W. Keysner Recordings
One 10-inch tape of church services and songs recorded in Harrisburg and Port Treverton, Pennsylvania, by Frank A. Hoffmann, August 26-27, 1956. The collection includes two pages of lists. Port Treverton recordings made at a "Migrant Worker Camp (Negro)" on August 27 and Sept. 3, 1956, as well as at the home of Mrs. Blanche W. Keysner of Harrisburg, Pennsylviania, on August 26, 1956. Singers at the migrant worker camp were: John T. AFC 1970/001: Eleanor Dickinson Collection
This collection of video recordings, sound recordings, manuscripts, photographs, graphic materials, and artifacts documents Protestant religious revival meetings of various denominations in the southern Appalachian region, primarily in Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia. The collection includes interviews with church leaders and members of congregations, and documentation of religious services, healing services, revivals, hymn singing, sermons, snake handling, and other religious rites and customs recorded by Eleanor Dickinson from 1968 to 1991. One 10-inch tape of instrumentals performed primarily on fiddle by Emory Bailey and Uncle Pat Co[u]gar of Gem, West Virginia, and Arden Wilson of Harrisville, West Virginia. AFC 1995/004: Mike Seeger Collection
Two hundred and seventy-five 10-inch tapes of bluegrass, country, and folk music, recorded in California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, primarily by Mike Seeger, 1953-67. The collection includes three linear inches of computer disks, correspondence, notes, and photos. These tapes supplement his collections already in the archive. Includes some examples made by other collectors, including recordings of autoharpist, John Kilby Snow recorded by Blaine Jaeger. Bluegrass music predominates this collection. A number of the tapes were recorded from radio and TV programs.

AFC 1995/048: John Henry: The Steel Driving Man
Fifty-eight page document written in 1994. It is a portrait of John Henry, hero of the ballad of the same name, and his contest with a steam drill to dig a railroad tunnel through Big Bend Mountain in West Virginia. It reproduces statements from people who knew John Henry, as well as maps and color photos of the Big Bend tunnel and surrounding points of interest. Bob Hampton wrote this for use as an educational tool, particularly for young, black males, following research conducted in the Archive of Folk Culture and elsewhere.

AFC 1996/041: Don Patterson / Mountain Music Video Collection (parts 1 and 2)
Four videotapes. Part 1 consists of 2 videotapes entitled Highlights of Clifftop: The Fifth Appalachian String Band Music Festival, and Hinton, West Virginia Railroad Days, and were produced in 1994. Part 2 contains 2 more videotapes produced in 1995. These are entitled Highlights of Clifftop: The Sixth Appalachian String Band Music Festival, and The Old Drake: Traditional Music from the Mountains of East Central West Virginia Played on the Banjo and Fiddle: Visiting Dwight Diller with Jimmy Triplett. All were produced for commercial sale, and all focus on folk music performance in West Virginia: three regional festivals and the Diller-Triplett concert.

AFC 1996/051: Transcripts of testimony and other court documents relating to the murder of Jay Legg
One hundred seventy-eight photocopied pages of newspaper accounts, transcripts of testimony, and other courtroom documents pertaining to the trial of Sarah Ann Legg for the murder of her husband, Jay Legg, in Clay County, West Virginia, February 10, 1904. Collected by Carl Fleischhauer and Alan Jabbour, ca. 1973, in connection with their fieldwork and subsequent preparation for publication of recordings numbered AFS L65-66, The Hammons Family: A Study of a West Virginia Family's Traditions, which includes the song, "Jay Legg."

Two hundred forty-four manuscript pages and 36 audio tapes primarily concerned with Melvin Wine, but also contain materials on Jean Ritchie of Viper, Kentucky; black banjo player Clarence Tross of Hardy County, West Virginia; Senator Robert C. Byrd of Raleigh County, West Virginia; the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys of Pocahontas County, West Virginia; Andrew J. Boarman of Berkeley County, West Virginia; the origins of the fiddle tune, "Elzick's Farewell;" and the John Henry Memorial Foundation. This collection supplements a variety of recordings and other formats contributed in previous years by Fleischhauer.

AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection, housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress.
