AFC 1982/006: Carol and Travis Jenkins Garifuna Collection
Eighty-three 7-inch tapes and 91 pages of manuscripts of songs, poems, and religious ceremonies performed by the Garifuna people of Belize. Recorded by Carol and Travis Jenkins in the villages of Barranco (Barangu), Seine Bight, Hopkins, and Dangriga (Stann Creek), June 19-August 20, 1981, with assistance from Illinois State University and the American Folklife Center's Equipment Loan program. One-hour radio documentary on the music of recent immigrant groups in Los Angeles. Includes interviews with and performances of Cambodian, Mexican, Chinese, Iranian, Guatemalan, Armenian, Korean, and Beliziean musicians at various private and public events. Produced by Helene Rosenbluth and Sara Jacobus. Project coordinator was Susan Auerbach.
