Speaker Biography: Born in Cordoba, Argentina, Luis Alberto Ambroggio is a member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language. He is the author of nine collections of poetry published in Spain, Argentina and the U.S. His poetry has appeared in anthologies in Latin America, Europe and the U.S. His poems have also appeared in magazines such as "Passport," "Scholastic," "International Poetry Reveiw," and "Hispanic Culture Review." Some of his poems are included in Textbooks of Literature. Ambroggio's poetry has been selected for the Archives of Hispanic-American Literature of the Library of Congress.
Speaker Biography: Lori Carlson is an editor, translator and novelist having published 16 books. She holds a bachelor of arts in Spanish literature and linguistics and a master of arts in Hispanic literature from Indiana University. Moving from Indiana to New York, Carlson began her career at the American Society first as deputy director then as director of literature and publications. She has been managing editor of Review Latin American Literature and Arts Magainze, co-editor of Translation Magazine published by Columbia University and currently is a consulting editor. Carlson teaches in the English department at Duke University.
Speaker Biography: Catherine Mayo is a poet, novelist and economist. Author of several novels, she's founder and editor of a bilingual magazine and her translations of Mexican works have achieved awards for best of Mexican fiction.
Speaker Biography: Steven F. White is a poet, critic and professor of Latin American literature at St. Lawrence University. White translated Seven Trees against the Dying Light by Pablo Antonio Cuadra, The Angel of Rain by Cuban Gaston Baquero, Rubeen Dario: Selected Works and Poet in New York by Federico Garcia Lorca,. He is the co-author of Ayahuasca Reader and Culture and Customs of Nicaragua. His most recent book of poetry is Bajo la palabra de las plantas (poesia selecta: 1979-2009). The title of the essay he read was: "Translations as Ghost Poems/Translations of Sustainability"
