• National Public Radio, a noncommercial radio network, produces its own programming and uses programming supplied by member stations, made by noncommercial networks outside the United States, or made by independent producers.
• The Voice of America is one of the largest newsgathering organizations in the world.
• Pacifica Radio is the nation's first listener-supported, community-based radio network. Since 1949 the network has pursued its mission to promote cultural diversity and pluralistic community expression.
• The Library is the sole repository of the BBC Collection (1888-1980s) in the Western Hemisphere. Numbering more than six thousand LPs, the collection contains a selection of the most important recordings of current-affairs and cultural radio programs made by the BBC during the course of its existence.
• The Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS) provides radio (and television) programs to service members and families overseas.
• Another very important resource is the Ladyslipper Catalog and Resource Guide of Music by Women (Durham, N.C.: Ladyslipper, Inc., 1976-), which is available only in the reference center.
• Aspiring movie actress Chris Noel (b. 1941) hosted the AFRTS radio program A Date with Chris, which ran throughout most of the conflict in Vietnam.
