Introduction

Although telephone directories are generally not cataloged by the Library of Congress, they are nonetheless valuable resources for genealogical research. This compilation lists the Polish directories held and available at the Library of Congress as of November 2003.

The following list is divided into two sections: the first covers the period 1939-45 and includes a full listing of cities, towns and villages The second section begins after 1945 and is organized by the scope of coverage, beginning with directories for the entire country and followed by directories for specific regions.

The many changes in Polish administrative districts over the years have resulted in variations in the titles for directories covering the same areas, so some regions are covered by more than one entry. Entries for directories possessing the same title are not repeated; only the individual years are added below the entry.

NOTE: Polish diacritics are omitted. Abbreviations: "k"(kolo)=nearby; "n"(nad)=on (usually on the river)
