Dr. Alice S. Kandell dedicated her rights to the public domain. Photographs by Tse Ten Tashi in the collection are also in the public domain.

Access: Subject to P&P policy on serving originals. Photographic prints, contact sheets from the negatives, and color photocopies of color slides are available. A selection of representative photos is also digitized in the online catalog. (Original negatives and transparencies are generally not served if prints or digitized versions of the images are available.)

Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying, photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair use"): Subject to P&P policy on copying; original color photographs are not photocopied for preservation reasons.

Publication and other forms of distribution: Dr. Alice S. Kandell dedicated her rights for the photographs she made to the public domain when donating her collection to the Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division, in 2010. The collection also includes photographs by Tse Ten Tashi, whose family also dedicated the rights to the public domain. Privacy and publicity rights could apply for images that include people.
