Congressional Record Index Office (CRI)

The Congressional Record Index Office (CRI) is responsible for creating an index to the congressional proceedings, bills and resolutions, floor statements, submitted remarks, and all supporting documents that appear in the Congressional Record. The Congressional Record Index appears online on a daily basis and is printed on a biweekly basis while Congress is in session. As with any index, our products are intended to assist with the location of information contained in the Congressional Record.

In addition to our daily online and biweekly printed products, CRI is responsible for creating a History of Bills and Resolutions that tracks the legislative progress of every piece of legislation introduced in Congress. Also, at the request of the House and Senate Journal Clerks, we create and provide them with indexes to the House and Senate Journals.

The primary mission of the Congressional Record Index Office (CRI) is to produce a quality publication and online product that is intended to assist with the location of information contained in the Congressional Record. This Index must be created in an expedient manner in order to ensure its availability online on a daily basis, and in a printed version biweekly. Yet, it also must be created in such a way that its contents remain comprehensive in order to be a functional reference resource for its users. Indexers must work in a team environment in order to achieve these goals. Listed below are the elements of the Indexer position necessary to make the CRI mission successful.
