The Jackie Robinson Foundation is happy to announce that BMO Capital Markets, Major League Baseball, Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Dodgers have reached a significant philanthropic milestone with JRF having each supported our scholarship and leadership development initiative with $1 million or more during the course of the last six years, making them the newest members of JRF’s Donor Hall of Fame.

Four years ago, 82 incoming freshmen were selected as Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars. Eighteen Scholars of this class graduated with Honors (e.g. summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude), with close to 25% pursuing graduate studies. Forty-five percent reported that they have found full-time employment.
Jackie Robinson Foundation Founder Rachel Robinson celebrated her 90th birthday on July 19th. The wife of baseball and civil rights great Jackie Robinson received tributes from politicians, celebrities, close friends and family. JRF has announced the new class of Extra Innings Fellows for 2012. (pictured above l-r:) Ashley Bailey, Elizabeth Gil, Rebecca Gilmore and Candace Walker will pursue their advanced degrees in the areas of law, education, economic policy and criminal justice. The EI program was created to help highly motivated JRF Scholars overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers–the cost of advanced professional or graduate training. Fellows receive up to $10,000 per year.

JRF Alumna Brittany Williams has received the prestigious City Fellowship from Goldman Sachs. Williams, a JRF/Con Edison Scholar, graduated from the University of Virginia in 2010 with a degree in Systems Engineering.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation will once again benefit from BMO Capital Markets "Equity Through Education" charitable initiative. The donation to JRF and seven other North American organizations represents commissions earned on all institutional equity trades executed by BMO Capital Markets in Canada and the U.S. on October 4, 2011.
LeRoy Neiman, the artist known for his impressionistic works of some of the world's best-known sporting figures and events, died Wednesday. He was 91. This unique project maps the historical trajectory of a traditional sorority and institution of womanhood in southeast Nigeria known as "mbopo."
Major League Baseball and Scholastic announced that Raeya Ponugoti, a fifth grader from Indianapolis, Indiana, and Peter Hanhan, a ninth grade student from Valrico, Florida, were selected as Grand Prize winners of the 2012 Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life Essay Contest. Both students were selected from thousands of essays submitted for this year's contest. Hanhan is the inaugural Grand Prize winner of the new high school component to the Breaking Barriers essay contest for ninth grade students.
