Shortage of Acyclovir - February 2010

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated information on the shortage of acyclovir. For information about the current availability of acyclovir, visit the FDA Drug Shortage Website. Recommendations for other therapies for genital herpes are in the CDC 2006 STD Treatment Guidelines.

January 26, 2010

On January 21, 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported a shortage of acyclovir. Acyclovir is a recommended therapy for genital herpes. Acyclovir tablets are currently available in limited supplies. The availability may vary in different geographic locations. For additional information about the availability of acyclovir, visit the FDA Drug Shortage Website. Other CDC recommended therapies for genital herpes are available. Guidance on these recommended therapies are included in the 2006 STD Treatment Guidelines.
