Richard Wagner (1813-1883)
German composer Richard Wagner is well known for changing the course of opera in the 19th century by melding together the music, text, and action of an opera into one continuous uninterrupted production that he called music dramas. Wagner’s most famous work is Der Ring des Nibelungen, four separate operas (Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung) that tell one continuous story based on mythological themes.
