      Since VRC was formed in 1863, this was presumably taken in 1863 or later.

      I wonder what the unbuttoning of the jacket symbolizes. It seems deliberate, given that both soldiers have used one button at the top and three at the bottom and left the others unbuttoned.

      I've noticed that a lot of the soldiers have the middle buttons undone. Fashion of the day, perhaps?
