About TBBL

The TBBL is the Indiana Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, one of 57 regional libraries of the Library of Congress' National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). The Talking Book and Braille Library has been an important part of the Indiana State Library since 1934, when it became part of the NLS program.

In order to localize and speed up services, the TBBL has contracted with three public libraries, in Evansville, Merrillville, and Columbus, to serve as Subregional Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. They welcome walk-in patrons, distribute TBBL materials, and offer advisory services for patrons. Indiana also has regional Talking Book Service Centers situated in the central libraries of the Allen County, Kokomo/Howard County, Monroe County, St. Joseph County, and Tippecanoe County public libraries. These centers were established to encourage talking book patrons to make greater use of their local libraries, and to increase awareness of the "talking book service" by the general public.
