Six 10-inch tapes of instrumentals and songs played and sung by Guy Blakeman (fiddle), Wally Bollinger (banjo), "Pigmeat" Jarrett (piano), Phil McGing (melodeon), Vince Sawma (oud), and The Liberty Cornet Band. AFC 1981/018: Ethnic Broadcasting in America Collection
Eighteen 7-inch tapes, 2 5-inch tapes, and 117 cassettes of ethnic radio broadcasts recorded for the Ethnic Broadcasting in America Project of the American Folklife Center. Recorded mostly off the air by Elena Bradunas, Theodore Grame, Alan Jabbour, and others at various locations in the United States, 1977-78. AFC 1986/009: Traditional Pork Processing Collection
Collection of research materials about traditional pork processing collected by Barbara C. Fertig and others from several sources including the family of Marsha Holt Jacob and James M. Holt of Surrey, Virginia. Includes ca. 450 black-and-white and color photographs of family hog butchering and food preparation in Virginia and of local butchers in Ohio, taken by several photographers in 1985 to 1986. Also includes correspondence, articles, recipes, and clippings. In addition, there is information about Mennonite traditions, which includes an oral history interview with Helen Reimer Franz, Erwin Nick Hiebert, and Elfrieda Franz Hiebert conducted by Catherine Hiebert Kerst, about Mennonite hog butchering and food customs. AFC 1996/061: Dominic Montecalvo / Vincenza Montecalvo Italian Songs Collection
One cassette of Italian songs sung by Vincenza Montecalvo, recorded in 1959. Donated by her son Dominic Montecalvo of Ravenna, Ohio. The collection includes 11 pages of notes and a photo of the singer. (32 minutes)

AFC 1996/067: The Shantyman's Canon / by Robert Young Walser
M.M. Thesis. This thesis is an examination of sailors' work songs for a core repertoire. Walser explores the "canonical" aspects of shanties, using many as examples, and also lists the frequency of shanties appearing in the American Folklife Center collections.

Master's thesis submitted to the Kent State University College of Fine and Professional Arts, Kent, Ohio, in December 1993. The thesis is a study of Ohio fiddler Denny Jones. AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection,housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. AFC 2001/015: September 11, 2001, Documentary Project Collection
The collection documents reactions of ordinary citizens in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States through sound and video recordings of interviews and personal narratives; as well as photographs, children's drawings, two scrapbooks, letters and e-mail, poems, ephemera, and a few artifacts. Some items were submitted as group projects of schools, libraries, and museums from 30 states in the U.S., and from American military service personnel and their families in Naples, Italy. Five audiocassettes, 3 CDs, and 17 manuscript pages made by Art Thieme of blues singers and hobos in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio in 1960-1962, and 2000.

AFC 2003/027: Pete and Toshi Seeger Film Collection
Approximately 700 film and audio elements relating to Pete and Toshi Seeger's filmmaking from 1955-1965 at various locations in: Angola, Australia, Austria, Canada, England, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Somoa, Sweden, Tanzania, Trinidad, Ukraine, and the United States. In the United States, locations include Beacon, New York; Circle Pines, Michigan; Hamilton, Ohio; Huntsville, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Madison, Wisconsin; New York, New York; Newport, Rhode Island; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Washington, DC, among others. The collection includes three bamboo flutes.

AFC 2003/055: Tony Ellis Concert Collection
Homegrown 2003 concert featuring bluegrass music performed by Tony Ellis at the Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge, Ohio. Concert was part of a Library of Congress tour of 3 cities in Ohio with Dr. James H. Billington, Ohio Congressman Bob Ney, American Folklife Center and other Library staff to promote the Veterans History Project, and AFC collections and programs. Disc One includes speeches by Cambridge, Ohio, mayor Samual A. Salupo; Congressman Bob Ney; Executive Director of the Ohio Arts Council, Wayne Lawson; and Librarian Dr. James H. Billington. Disc Two is a sound recording of the Tony Ellis concert, introduced by Wayne Lawson. [catalog record]

Documentation regarding fisher folk culture and folkways in the Ohio River Valley, collected ca. 1977-1979. This collection includes materials resulting from research that led to the publication of his book Flatheads & spooneys: fishing for a living in the Ohio River Valley, published by University Press of Kentucky, 1995.
