Fourteen 16-inch discs containing transfers of Northern Ute Indian songs, a speech, and stories originally recorded on one hundred nine wax cylinders in Fort Duchesne and Whiterocks, Utah, by Frances Densmore, August 1914 and August 3-12, 1916. AFS 11,307-11,309: Sidney Robertson Cowell Collection
Three 10-inch tapes of interviews and music recorded in California, Iran, Ireland (Co. Mayo and Co. Galway), Massachusetts, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, and Wisconsin by Sidney Robertson Cowell, 1952-56. The collection includes 2 1/2 linear inches of correspondence, journals, logs, notes, postcards, and transcriptions, and an article. Includes Anglo-American songs and ballads from New England, Montana, and California; Portuguese songs from Massachusetts; English and Gaelic songs and ballads from Cape Breton Island, Canada; and Spanish-American songs from southern California. The collection includes 40 pages of correspondence, lyrics, notes, transcripts, and song lists. Includes western folk songs and songs and lore of urban minority groups in California.

AFS 21,261-21,262: Frances Densmore Recordings
Two 10-inch tapes of primarily Calusa, Cheyenne, Cocopa, Pawnee, Quileute, Sioux, Ute, and Yuma music and speech. Originally recorded on cylinders at various locations in North America by Frances Densmore, 1907-35. The collection includes 25 pages of documentation, notes, a published article, and a translation of a speech.

AFC 1980/008: "An Investigation of Adolescent Females in America's Sub-Cultures" by Margo Davis
One hundred twenty-three-page manuscript entitled "An Investigation of Adolescent Females in America's Sub-Cultures." Includes interviews with young women aged 13-27, from Mormon, Mennonnite, Papago, Hopi, Hutterite, farming, and fishing communities. Interviews were conducted in Downeast Maine; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Boulder, Utah; Tucson and areas in northern Arizona;and Norfolk Connecticut, by Margo Davis, Oct. 1979-June 1980. Davis was traveling with the Audubon Expedition Institute for Environmental Education.

Thirteen 10-inch tapes, 233 black-and-white negatives, 8 black-and-white contact sheets, 7 black-and-white photoprints, 13 color photoprints, 130 color slides, and 1 linear inch of business cards, ephemera, guides, logs, notes, and published articles of performances from the 1983 Neptune Plaza Concert Series sponsored by the American Folklife Center and featuring the presentation of folk traditions from many cultures. AFC 1989/022: Italian-Americans in the West Project Collection
Sixty-five reel-to-reel tapes, 233 audiocassettes, over 24,000 black-and-white and color photographs, 22 3/4-inch and 1/2-inch videocassettes, 50 linear feet of correspondence, ephemera, exhibit materials, fieldnotes, photo logs, publicity, reports, sound logs, and video logs, and 12 artifacts from the Italian Americans in the West project, an American Folklife Center field research project that focused on the cultural traditions of Italian Americans in the western United States. The materials were compiled in 1988-93; the field research took place in 1989-91 at Gilroy and San Pedro, California; Pueblo, Colorado; central and eastern Nevada; Carbon County, Utah; and Walla Walla, Washington. The project included the publication of a book of essays, Old Ties, New Attachments: Italian-American Folklife in the West (Washington, D.C.: American Folklife Center,1992), and a traveling exhibition of the same name that opened in October 1992. AFC 1990/010: Grouse Creek Cultural Survey
Sixty-two cassettes of interviews, music, and stage performances duplicated from the original Grouse Creek Cultural Survey collection housed at the Fife Folklore Archives, Utah State University. Recorded in the Grouse Creek region of Utah by Hal Cannon, Tom Carter, and Carol Edison, July-August 1985. The Grouse Creek Cultural Survey was a joint project of the American Folklife Center, the Folk Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council, the National Park Service, the Utah State Historic Preservation Office, Utah State University, and the Western Folklife Center. The collection includes two linear feet of architectural survey data, color transparency fiche, correspondence, fieldnotes, guides, logs, published articles, and transcriptions. AFC 1991/020: Utah Arts Council Folk Arts Program / Listening In: Utah Storytelling
One cassette entitled "Listening In: Utah Storytelling," featuring recordings made at various locations in Utah primarily by David Stanley, during or before 1991, for the Utah Arts Council Folk Arts Program. The collection includes a booklet, a page of correspondence, and a receipt. Includes field recordings of thirteen stories by Utah residents in various settings, such as homes, campsites, classrooms, and cafes; representing storytelling traditions of various occupational, family, immigrant, and Shoshone groups. First in a series of booklets and cassettes on Utah traditions produced by the Utah Arts Council Folk Arts Program. David H. Stanley, author/compiler. AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Numerous types and styles of needlework, quilting, patchwork, applique and embroidery are represented among the visual images. [catalog record] [finding aid] [online presentation]

AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. AFC 2000/017: Craig R. Miller / Old-Time Social Dance in the Mormon West
Two booklets and 1 double-CD package received by Peter Bartis from Craig Miller for our files on state materials. The CD-set is accompanied by a 73-page booklet of sheet music and dance steps; the transcriptions were made by Larry V. Shumway from field recordings compiled by Craig Miller. The dance notes are by Craig Miller and Laraine Miner. "Social Dance in the Mormon West" (57-pages with many photos) includes an essay by Shumway. The set of three was published by the Utah Arts Council in 2000.

AFC 2001/015: September 11, 2001, Documentary Project
The collection documents reactions of ordinary citizens in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States through sound and video recordings of interviews and personal narratives; as well as photographs, children's drawings, two scrapbooks, letters and e-mail, poems, ephemera, and a few artifacts. Some items were submitted as group projects of schools, libraries, and museums from 30 states in the U.S., and from American military service personnel and their families in Naples, Italy. AFC 2001/015: SR328-371: Forty-four tapes containing 56 interviews and narratives about the events of September 11, 2001, conducted by students from Utah State University, Logan, Utah. Recorded October-December 2001.

AFC 2008/008: The Beehive Band Concert Collection
Collection of digital video, sound recordings, and photographs documenting a concert by The Beehive Band on April 24, 2008 in the Coolidge Auditorium, Library of Congress, as part of the Homegrown concert series sponsored by the American Folklife Center. The band performs old-time American music, which developed in the Latter-day Saint communities of Utah, including hymns, songs, and fiddle tunes of the Utah pioneers.
