Isaac Bassett Turns Back the Clock

Isaac Bassett became a Senate page in 1831, at the age of 12, and remained a Senate employee for the rest of his life. Photographs from the late 19th century show the elderly Bassett turning back the hands of the Senate clock , allowing busy senators a little more time to complete their work before adjournment.
