Sen. Boozman: Thank you for your response to me, explaining your stance on SNAP and your endeavors to meet unfunded mandates. I understand that fiscal responsibility is very necessary. Therefore, might I suggest a possible solution to help? That is, since enrolleed in SNAP and unemployment have to apply and qualify for these subsidy programs, why doesn't congress require the same of the corporations who just received approval of $205 billion in subsidies, a number of whom, like GE, haven't paid taxes in years. Somehow, fighting to come up with $30 billion for the unemployed that many of those same companies laid off seems quite small in comparison. I understand that business at times needs breaks to survive and thrive and continue to create jobs. My problem is that no only GE, but several other of those companies receiving these corporate subsidies have had record profits the past few years - have refused to rehire the positions they laid off, and have no real need of this taxpayer give away. I would greatly appreciate it if you, as a pragmatic leader, would bring forward a bill that would in future, require ALL businesses to be qualified in order to receive our taxpayer dollars. That is, to demonstrate clearly, and subject ot audit, that they are in need of such monies to continue to grow as a company and provide jobs. I don't see how this could be objectionable, given that congress requires this of all others who receive from subsidy programs. And the billions saved would certainly help our budget! Thank you for continuing to serve and for your thorough explanations of your stance. I often don't agree with you, but that's what democracy is all about, correct? Agreeing to disagree? But surely pragmatism that saves our taxpayer dollars is a good common ground. Thanks for what you do.

  2. This is an important step in our efforts to maintain a flying mission in Fort Smith. Gen. Welsh has heard us tout the capabilities of the 188th Fighter Wing. Now, he will have an opportunity to see first-hand how the most cost effective Air... National Guard unit in the country partners with the other assets in Ft. Smith to provide a variety of capabilities. We look forward to showcasing the value and resources our air base provides to our national security.See More
