APS is an international security cooperation initiative, facilitated by Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, aimed at strengthening global maritime partnerships through training and collaborative activities in order to improve maritime safety and security in Africa.

 
Fair Winds and Following Seas:
Rear Adm. Garry J. Bonelli retired Feb. 1 from Naval Special Warfare Command. Read about this outstanding patriot on page 19 of the latest Ethos magazine. Career highlights include: Enlisted 1968, graduated BUDS 1969, two Vietnam deployments in UDT 12 as a "frogman," plank owner of the first Naval Special Warfare Reserve unit in 1974, served as CO of SEAL Team 5 during Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield and went on to lead as Force Commander of Naval Special Warfare Command.


A Day in the Navy Reserve 
Security force team members for Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Farah wait for a UH-60 Blackhawk medevac helicopter, assigned to Army National Guard C Company, 2-211th Aviation Regiment (Air Ambulance), to land before moving a simulated casualty during medical evacuation training on Forward Operating Base Farah. PRT Farah trains, advises and assists Afghan government leaders at the municipal, district and provincial levels in Farah province, Afghanistan. Their civil military team is comprised of members of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of State and the Agency for International Development (USAID).
