Selected Conditions Studied at NIH

Alcoholism

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) conducts various alcoholism research studies at the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD.

Alzheimer's Disease

The Alzheimer's Disease Clinical Trials Database is a joint project of FDA and the National Institute on Aging (NIA). It is maintained by NIA's Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral (ADEAR) Center. See the fact sheet on Alzheimer's Disease Clinical Trials and Studies for more information.

Cancer

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the U.S. government's principal agency for cancer research and training. Most other U.S. government agencies that conduct cancer research, such as the U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, do so in partnership with NCI.

Visit NCI's Clinical Trials page to find information on cancer studies, read about noteworthy clinical studies, find resources for researchers, and browse clinical studies results by type of cancer.

NCI's Clinical Trials Education Series page provides access to publications that help individuals and health care professionals understand clinical studies. These include self-paced workbooks, booklets, DVDs, slide programs on CD-ROM, and online training courses.

NCI's Understanding Cancer Series site contains graphics-rich tutorials for life science teachers, medical professionals, and the general public. Topics include the HPV vaccine, cancer and the environment, the cancer genome project, and more.

Staff members from FDA's Cancer Liaison Program, part of the Office of Special Health Issues, answer questions from cancer patients, their families, and patient advocates regarding cancer clinical studies and cancer drug development.

Genetic and Rare Diseases

The Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR) Web site provides information about research on rare diseases, including research supported by ORDR.
