Harkin Statement on President Obama’s Nominations to the National Labor Relations Board

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

WASHINGTON—Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement today in support of President Obama’s re-nominations of Richard Griffin and Sharon Block to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB):

"I am pleased to see President Obama acting to strengthen the National Labor Relations Board. The re-nominations of two well-qualified Board members—Richard Griffin and Sharon Block—are a good start. I hope that the President will also move quickly to re-nominate Chairman Pearce and announce nominees for the two Republican seats on the NLRB, so that the Board can continue its important work without interruption.  Workers, businesses, and our economy all benefit from a fully-functional NLRB.  As Chairman of the HELP Committee, I pledge to give swift consideration to a full package of five nominees in my Committee, and I hope that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will give such a package fair consideration as well."
