WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today made the following statements after the Georgia Board of Regents and the University System of Georgia announced Jere Morehead as the sole finalist for the University of Georgia presidency:

“It is with great excitement that I congratulate Jere Morehead for being named the sole finalist for the University of Georgia presidency,” said Isakson. “I have known Jere for many years as he has served in many capacities at the University. He is immensely accomplished, qualified and widely respected in our state. I am confident that Jere will make terrific president and will lead UGA -- my beloved alma mater -- to continue to thrive as one of the nation’s top public universities.”

“As an alumnus of the University of Georgia, I could not be happier with the Board of Regents’ decision to name Jere Morehead as the finalist for president of the University of Georgia,”
said Chambliss. “A man of integrity and utter dedication to UGA, Jere brings a wealth of academic and practical experience to the job. His numerous teaching honors attest to his skills with students and to the breadth of his knowledge. Mike Adams’ 16-year tenure has brought an even greater degree of credibility to the institution, and I know Jere will do a great job in continuing to carry the university’s flag into the future.”
