Digital Literacy Portal: In The Community Template

Our “In the Community” page aims to share best practices by providing in-depth success stories about how organizations are improving digital literacy among local communities across the country. Follow the instructions below when submitting a story for inclusion on the "In the Community" page.

Provide the external URL to where the story can be found

Opening
Include program/project name, and give a brief, high-level overview of story’s theme with a focus on:

  • The program/project’s impact on the community.
  • The program/project’s efforts to promote digital literacy. What activity are they doing? What is the overall goal of the endeavor (e.g. to promote digital literacy through computer basics training)? What’s newsworthy about the efforts they have made?

Additional Detail
Expand on the theme, including quotes if relevant.

  • Community Impact: What parts of the community are benefitting/will benefit from the project? How are they benefiting (e.g. developing computer skills that will help them find jobs)? Focus on what’s unique about the program/project. What is innovative about the program/project?

Program Results
Provide quantitative results when available, e.g. number trained, number of classes offered. If possible, provide examples of people who have directly benefited from your program, such as an individual who used digital literacy skills to obtain a job.

Conclusion
Provide context on how these digital literacy programs are being funded. Explain your organization’s role in implementing this program/project.

In The Community (ITC) Story Considerations

  • Each story should include one or more photos. Please submit photos in JPEG (.jpeg) or PNG (.png) format.
  • Edited videos with voiceover are also encouraged, but no longer than three minutes. Please submit videos in flash (.flv) format and include a transcript if available. Or provide a hyperlink to your webpage where the video is posted.
  • Use hyperlinks to refer to relevant websites as necessary.
  • Stories should not exceed 500 words, as online visitors are unlikely to read anything longer.
  • Stories can include quotes from project managers, community leaders, and/or individuals who benefit from the program.
