Weapon Registration
If you own a weapon you must register in accordance with Fort Stewart Regulation 190-2. Weapon registration is required just like vehicle registration on Fort Stewart and is recorded in the same COPS database.

Confiscation of CAC Cards and DoD Identification Cards

Effective 1 June 2010, Access Control Point Security Guards for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield began confiscating mutilated and/or expired Government Identification Cards, i.e., Active Duty Military ID’s, Retired Military ID’s, Dependent Family Member ID’s, and Government Issued Common Access Cards (CACs). The Security Guards will explain the reason for confiscation and then will provide a receipt to the individual.

Once a day the Security Guards will take all confiscated ID cards to the Military Police Station. The Military Police will turn-in all non-active duty ID cards the next work day to the installation ID Card Section (Soldier Service Center at Building 253 - FSGA or ACS at Bldg 1286 -HAAF). For active duty members, supervisors in the rank of E7 and above may come to the MP Station to sign for the subordinate’s ID Card. By doing so, the supervisor is assuming the responsibility of ensuring Soldiers obtain a new ID card from their respective brigade’s ID Card section.

Examples of Mutilated, Expired or Altered ID’s include but are not limited to the following:

• CAC card missing the Memory Chip (Gold Chip)
• Cards not being legible
• Pictures that are unrecognizable
• Lamination split or coming off
• Damage that prevents identifying information from being verified
• Evidence that the card has been or attempted to be altered

Q. If I am a dependent, can I register a vehicle in my sponsor's name?
A. If the dependent's name appears on the registration or the dependent has a notarized letter giving them permission to register the vehicle, or power of attorney over the property.

Q: I don't have a Department of Defense decal in my windshield. Am I still eligible to access Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield?
A: Yes, however if attempting to gain access while driving a POV, you must access the instillation through the no decal lane at Gate 1 or the Montgomery Gate at Hunter Army Airfield. You (and all occupants 15 years of age and older) must present a valid matching form of photo identification (drivers license, State ID card, etc) at Gate 1 at Fort Stewart or Montgomery Gate at Hunter Army Airfield to gain access.

Q. I am a contractor but I do not have a contractor's I.D., can I get a sticker?
A. No, but you can get with your company liaison in order to go to the CPO office and get the paperwork for a contractor's ID. Once you have the ID, you can get your vehicle registered.

Q. I am selling my car, what do I do with my stickers?
A. You must remove your stickers and turn them in at the vehicle registration on your post. You are responsible for those stickers.

NOTE: If you are PCSing, you do not have to turn in your stickers, but if you are being chaptered out of the military, you need to turn in your stickers.

Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is AIE?
A. AIE stands for Automated Installation Entry (AIE) The AIE system is designed to leverage technology to increase security for the Soldiers, Family Members, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian workforce, retirees, contract employees and guests of the Marne Division by electronically validating an individual's identification based upon information supplied at the time of AIE registration.

Q. If I have a CAC or Family Member ID card already, can I use it to get on the Installation using the AIE system?
A. No, you must have your DOD CAC/Family Member ID /Retired ID card or Disabled Veteran ID card registered in the AIE system at the Vehicle Registration Office.

Q. How do I register my ID card in the AIE system?
A. At either Vehicle Registration Offices on Fort Stewart (FS) Building 226 or Hunter Army Airfield (HAAF) Building 1279 between the hours of 0800-1600, Monday through Friday (Offices are Closed Weekends and Federal Holidays).

Q. Does everyone in my family have to register in the AIE System?
A. No, only those Family Members that are of driving age should register.

Q. If I have a CAC and a Retiree ID card do I have to register both?
A. No, if you register one card in the AIE system both of your cards will work at the gate.

Q. Will my registration expire?
A. Yes, your registration will expire at the same time as you ID expires. Once you re-new your ID card, you will have to re-register in the AIE system.

Q. How long does it take to register in the AIE system?
A. About 2 to 3 Min, once you have been called to the clerk’s or registrar’s desk.

Q. When I register at Fort Stewart will I be able to use my card to access other installations that have the AIE system?
A. No, not at this time. For the installations that are utilizing AIE you must register with the installation you are attempting to access.

Q. Will I be able to get on Fort Stewart if I register at Hunter Army Airfield?
A. Yes, if you register at Fort Stewart or Hunter you can access either installation.

Q. Does your sponsor have to be present to register in AIE?
A. No.

Q. Can an Active Duty Soldier register his or her Family Member’s ID card?
A. No, everyone must register their own ID card.

Q. Do I need a pin number for my ID card?
A. No, only CAC Card holders will need to know their computer log-in pin number.

Q. Will I be issued another ID card when I register in the AIE?
A. No.

Q. What is the 4 digit pin used for?
A. If the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) level goes up, the system may ask you for a 4 digit number showing you are authorized to be on the installation at the present FPCON level. You make up your own number while you are registering to enable this function.

Q. How will I know which lane to use?
A. There will be a sign at each lane and it will indicate AIE Open or AIE Closed – AIE is in use in lanes with the open sign showing.

Q. Will I have to show my identification to the guards?
A. If you are riding in the car alone all you have to do is swipe your card the gate will go up and you can continue onto the installation.

Q. What happens if I have passengers?
A. You will have to use the lanes which are not designated as AIE lanes and each individual in the vehicle will have to show their ID.

Q. When will the AIE system be used?
A. At this time, the AIE will be in use Mon-Fri from 1330 to 0500. On Sat-Sun, Training and Federal Holidays AIE will be in use for 24 hrs.

Q. Where do I swipe my card?
A. When you pull into the lane stop at the center pedestal you will see the card swipe device located to the right of the little video screen.

Q. How do I swipe my card?
A. You swipe your Government ID card just like you do your ATM card at the grocery store.

Q. What part of the ID card do I swipe?
A. You swipe the long narrow bar code located on the back of your ID cards. The magnetic stripe on the back of the CAC card is not used at the gate.

Q. What is the best way to hold my ID card when I swipe it?
A.

• • On the CAC card hold the card so that your picture is facing up with your thumb covering the magnetic stripe when you pull up to the center pedestal and the CAC will be in the correct position to swipe.
• • On the retiree/ family member ID card hold the card so that your picture faces the pedestal place your thumb over the bar code which looks like a bunch of black dots and the ID will be in the correct position to swipe.
