November 21, 2011 PIV Card Reader Deployment at NCI-Frederick
As of December 15, 2011 all government-owned Windows desktops will be required to have the ability to use a PIV card for login purposes. To prepare NCI-Frederick for this NIH mandate, C&SS will be distributing PIV card readers to existing desktops over the next several weeks. [Moreā€¦]

PIV Cards and VPN Information

PIV Readers

Notice: All government-owned PC laptops at NCI-Frederick must have the ability to log in with a PIV card by May 30, 2011. The NCI supplied enough USB PIV readers to cover all current systems without a PIV reader. All new systems will be required to have a PIV card reader included in the order. Most PC laptops can be configured with an integrated reader.

VPN

Notice: The 2-Factor VPN client is being installed on all government-owned laptops during the PIV card rollout.


Electronic Stewardship - Power Management Exception

Enabling Power Management features can interfere with certain features or functions on some computers. The standard power settings are:

  • Computer to Sleep (Stand-by Mode) = 60 minutes
  • Monitor Sleep (Blank Screen) = 15 minutes

If you need a change to these settings for any reason, please fill out the Electronic Stewardship - Power Management Exception and submit it to the NCI-Frederick Helpdesk (fredhelpdesk@nih.gov) or mail stop Bldg 360.
