Advance Monthly Sales for Retail and Food Services

Retail and food services sales in January 2011 rose 0.3 percent from the prior month and 7.8 percent from the prior year, to $381.6 billion. Excluding automobiles, retail sales in January 2011 rose 0.3 percent from December and increased 6.2 percent from January 2010, to $312.7 billion.

Retail and food services sales in May 2010 decreased 1.2% to $362.5 billion from April. This was up 6.9% from the May 2009 level. Excluding autos, retail and food services sales in May 2010 fell 1.1% from the previous month, to $300.7 billion.

Retail and food services sales in April 2010 increased 0.4% to $366.4 billion from March. This was up 8.8% from the April 2009 level. Excluding autos, retail and food services sales rose 7.6% from the prior year, to $303.5 billion.

Retail and food services sales in March 2010 increased 1.6% to $363.2 billion from February. This was up 7.6% from the March 2009 level. Excluding autos, retail and food services sales rose 0.6% from the previous month and increased 6.4% from the prior year, to $300.5 billion.
