About SORDAC

Established in 1991, the Special Operations Research, Development, and Acquisition Center (SORDAC) is responsible for all USSOCOM research, development, acquisition, procurement, and logistics.

SORDAC works closely with government, academia, and industry in meeting its mission to provide rapid and focused acquisition, technology, and logistics support to Warfighters, delivering the most effective capabilities to our Special Operations Forces.

Our Organization

SORDAC comprises seven Program Executive Offices and five Directorates. Together, they manage and support the development, acquisition, and fielding of critical items to enable a no-fail mission for the SOF Warfighter. SORDAC executes its mission and accelerates the force by following four key acquisition principles:

• 1) Delivers capability to the user expeditiously;
• 2) Exploits proven techniques and methods;
• 3) Keeps Warfighters involved throughout the process; and
• 4) Takes risk and manages it.

Acquisition Authority

The USSOCOM Commander has unique acquisition authorities and responsibilities. Title 10 United States Code, Section 167, vests the USSOCOM Commander with the responsibility and authority for the development and acquisition of Special Operations (SO)-peculiar equipment, the authority to exercise the functions of the head of agency, and the authority to execute funds.

The Commander has delegated those authorities to the USSOCOM Acquisition Executive who leads SORDAC in executing them.
