Proverbs and quotable: using very short texts in language learning

18 Chadian English teachers from the teachers college, language centers and secondary schools in Ndjamena participated in a 90-minutes electronic seminar (webinar) on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at the American Embassy.  The webinar focused on the use of proverbs and quotable in language learning and the discussions were led by a State Department’s Office of English Teaching specialist.  Participants, most of whom face a direct need for English teaching materials, followed presentation with a special interest.  The program discussed the importance of using proverbs in short texts to enhance the understanding of new expressions and vocabulary by students.  Real vehicles for moral advice, proverbs can be used in many activities such writing, speaking, and reading, etc. After the viewing session, participants exchanged ideas on how best to use proverbs and quotable in Chadian classes.
