  1. Today’s Washington Post highlights the retirement crisis in our country – most workers are not saving nearly enough and they’re having to borrow from their retirement plans to cope with stagnant wages. My USA Retirement Fund plan would hel...p give workers the opportunity to save for a secure, dignified retirement. http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/401k-breaches-undermining-retirement-security-for-millions/2013/01/14/f54a0e90-5e70-11e2-8acb-ab5cb77e95c8_story.htmlSee More

    •  Please help to reinstate the assault weapons ban and urge Senator Grassley to do so as well. (If my information is correct, you voted for it and he voted against.) I'm sure you are aware of the recent poll numbers appearing in the Huffington Post which show an overwhelming majority of Americans are in favor of certain types of gun regulations. I would like to ask your assistance in closing the gun show loophole by requiring background checks and supporting President Obama's recent executive orders.

    • Senator I post this statement to remind you the Oath you took to defend and uphold the Constitution: My Uncle Al, fought in the Korean War to defeat socialism and keep our freedoms as all Vets and current Military personnel are doing or have done. The President took an Oath and he needs to keep to this Oath. The oath of office of the President of the United States is an oath or affirmation required by the United States Constitution before the President begins the execution of the office. The wording is specified in Article Two, Section One, and Clause Eight: Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." An oath of office is an oath or affirmation a person takes before undertaking the duties of an office, usually a position in government or within a religious body, although such oaths are sometimes required of officers of other organizations. Such oaths are often required by the laws of the state, religious body, or other organization before the person may actually exercise the powers of the office or any religious body. It may be administered at an inauguration, coronation, enthronement, or other ceremony connected with the taking up of office itself, or it may be administered privately. In some cases it may be administered privately and then repeated during a public ceremony. Some oaths of office are a statement of loyalty to a constitution or other legal text or to a person or other office-holder (e.g., an oath to support the constitution of the state, or of loyalty to the king). Under the laws of a state it may be considered treason or a high crime to betray a sworn oath of office.

    • Does anyone know what it takes to get Senator Tom Harkin or his staff to respond to constituent requests for assistance? 8½ months since I wrote to him regarding problems with the department of Veterans Affairs, and still nothing. One would think that even if I wasn't a disabled veteran as well as active in the democratic party he'd still perhaps send the standard "thanks for writing" form letter, but to just ignore a constituent is...well, words fail. (Senator Chuck Grassley responded within 3 days with both letter and phone call, and invitation to schedule a meeting)

  3. Today, on the first day of the 113th Congress, I renewed my efforts to restore Senate tradition and reduce the threat of the filibuster. I introduced my own proposal to reduce the votes needed to pass legislation and joined Senators Merkley and Udall in their ‘talking filibuster’ proposal.
