The U.S. calls upon both the parties to resume direct talks without preconditions on all the issues that divide them. And we pledge that the United States will be there to support the parties vigorously in such efforts.

The United States is celebrating 67 years of global accomplishments through the United Nations as the organization marks its anniversary October 24, according to U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Susan Rice.

“These promising developments have come through Somali-led efforts and are nothing short of remarkable.”

The first session of the United Nations Organization’s General Assembly took place at Central Hall on Parliament Square in London, England, on January 10, 1946.

Russia’s and China’s veto is “dangerous and deplorable,” said U.S. Permanent Representative to the U.N. Susan Rice, and it marks the third time both countries have “prevented the Security Council from responding credibly to the Syrian conflict.”

We have heard once again about the vastly deteriorating situation in Syria resulting from the Assad regime’s intensification of the violence against its own people. The violence must stop and the process of transition to a post-Assad Syria must finally begin.

According to the U.N., resources were provided for peacekeeping operations to meet their mandates in the coming year while paving the way for sustainable improvements in performance and efficiency in future years.

The best outcome would be for the government of Syria to finally and immediately implement its commitments under the Annan plan as it’s obliged to do under UN Security Council resolutions. At this point, however, that does not seem to be a high probability scenario
