Passports, Reports of Birth & Citizenship
Welcome to the Passport & Citizenship Unit of the U.S. Embassy London. We provide services for American Citizens resident in England and Wales. We are open for appointments Monday to Friday mornings. The Unit is closed to the public on American and British public holidays.
Most adult passport renewals can be done through the mail. Processing generally takes four weeks. For details on whether you are eligible to renew your passport by mail, please see the passport services by mail section of our website. More information can be found by selecting your specific passport service from the menu at the left side of this page.
Please note: There is no walk-in service for American citizens who require a service related to passports or birth registration. These services are by appointment only.
Emergency appointments are available for those requiring passport services who are traveling within 36 hours. Please click on the "Emergency Appointment" Tab on the left-hand navigation bar for further information
Important Notice: Applicants who are late for the appointment will be asked to reschedule for another day.
Wait Times for Passport Interviews
Wait times for passport interviews may range from 2 - 3 hours depending on the number of customers. Please be aware that wait times are also longer for first time applicants and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. Generally speaking, the earlier your appointment time, the shorter your wait.
