I am very pleased today to be signing on behalf of the Government of the United States an agreement that forgives 100 percent of Guinea’s bilateral debt to my country, some 93 million dollars dating back several decades.
Visit of Singer Sidney Outlaw in Guinea
On January 21-26, 2013, Barytone Sidney Outlaw gave concerts in Conakry, Boké et Dubréka at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy in Conakry. These concerts titled “A Time to Break Silence” presented songs inspired by Dr. King’s words and writings.

Local Projects in Guinea
The Embassy of the United States in Conakry and the African Development Foundation (ADF) have identified 17 local projects in Guinea to help achieve the goals of supporting the architecture of democracy and enhancing choices of prosperity throughout the nation. The funding recipients were formally recognized at the U.S. Embassy on December 19, 2012.

Albino Rights are Human Rights
In observance of International Human Rights Day, the U.S. Embassy hosted a conference call between albino rights activists in Conakry and Dakar, Senegal. In Conakry, Ambassador Alex Laskaris and Minister of Human Rights Kalifa Gassama Diaby congratulated the participants on their efforts to raise public awareness of the life challenges albinos face. The activists in both countries plan further collaboration.

Embassy Hosts Jazz Event
On November 20, over 80 visitors attended the "Jam Session" photo exhibition hosted by Ambassador Alex Laskaris. The exhibit chronicles the travels - and captures the cool - of jazz legends who took part in the long-running Jazz Ambassadors cultural diplomacy program. The exhibit showcases American values, such as freedom of expression, creativity, and liberality of thought, while fostering people-to-people connections.

2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BREAKFAST
Over 70 journalists, civil society representatives, and youth turned out for a lively interchange with Ambassador Alex Laskaris and Economics Officer Brad Coley discussing the results of the 2012 U.S. presidential election. The educational event emphasized the role of the Electoral College and the importance of strategic campaigning prior to the election. The participants also watched Mitt Romney’s concession speech, illustrating one of America’s proudest presidential election traditions – the peaceful transfer of power.
