  • Young Mindanao Leaders Gather For “Human Rights Camp”

    The project, “Human Rights Camp: Building Communities of Human Rights Advocates”, brought together 60 human rights advocates from strife-torn areas in Mindanao. The project is a partnership of the US Embassy, the United States Department of Justice, the Philippine Youth Leadership Alumni Association, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The project was held in Awang, Maguindanao from December 6-8, 2012.

    A group of High School students bound for a one-year exchange program in the United States visited the U.S. Embassy prior to departing for their program on August 7. Known as the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, this U.S. State Department - sponsored program provides full scholarships for a full year of living and studying in the United States to a select group of teenagers from countries with significant Muslim populations.   more »

    USAID turns-over rehabilitated building, donates computers to Iligan City high schoold

    Iligan City East High School-Santiago Annex was among schools that sustained massive damage in the wake of Tropical Storm Sendong (Washi). In addition to rehabilitating the school building, USAID also provided 450 new student desks, as well as ten computers, reference materials, and teacher and student supplies.   more »

    U.S. Troops visit Talon Talon Orphanage

    U.S. Army Lt. Col. Bo Gardner, a member of the Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, plays with a young child at the Talon Talon Orphanage in Zamboanga City on Friday, May 25. The JSOTF-P went to the orphanage to provide over 13,000P worth of food and spent time with the children during the trip. Since the beginning of 2012 the JSOTF-P has donated more than 50,000P worth of food and supplies and has made five trips out to the Talon Talon Orphanage as part of the U.S. servicemembers’ desire to help the local community.
