Project Information
Resurfacing Project Begins in May
The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) begins overnight patching work on MD 28 between MD 97 and the Bridge over the Rock Creek Trail, just south of Baltimore Road.
The night work includes patching the existing roadway in preparation for resurfacing which will take place early summer. The patching is expected to be complete by late May with the final resurfacing to follow shortly after, weather permitting.
SHA will close up to two lanes overnight, Monday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to complete the patching and for the final resurfacing.
Work is being done overnight because the volume of traffic on MD 28 during daytime hours is too heavy to allow lane closures without negatively affecting motorists.
SHA awarded the contract to F.O. Day Co., Inc. SHA will provide variable message signs, drums, and flaggers to guide motorists through the work zone.
Work Zone Safety
SHA advises motorists to plan for extra driving time traveling through the construction zone on MD 28 and reminds motorists to buckle up, stay alert for lane closures. SHA constructs work zones to be as safe as possible, motorists also have an important role to play in reducing work zone-related crashes and saving lives. Here are some suggestions to guide motorists safely through work zones:
- Stay Alert
- Plan Ahead
- Slow Down
- Think Orange
