I am an associate veterinarian in a small animal practice of a small town in central Florida. We have a written policy posted at the front desk which clearly states we are happy to write a prescription at the owner's request for medication prescribed by the doctor. We do not charge for writing a prescription. Some of our clients ask for this and some just wish to purchase it from our hospital for convenience. It would be onerous for the veterinarian to write a prescription for every item even when the pet owner wishes to get it at the veterinary hospital. This is redundant. It will drain time from patient care, and raise the cost of services. I don't see this as consumer friendly.
