Submission Text
I am an overnight/emergency veterinarian and being forced to send owners home at 2 in the morning with prescriptions for medications to be filled when they can just be sent home with the actual medication itself is not good medicine, and is certainly not best for the animal. Questioning how I/we practice as veterinarians is offensive. There is a small pharmacy where I practice, just as there are small pharmacies in most practices, and medication is prescribed based on the need of the patient. The discretion of filling at the clinic level (if the medication is available) versus writing a prescription to be filled outside of the clinic should be up to one individual--the doctor.
