Learning Resources

This is where Imagery producers from all imagery producing fields, as well as those who use DoD imagery, will find information, hints, tips and policies to assist each imagery producer in having their imagery prepared for and submitted to the DoD central imagery reception point.

How-To

We are very interested in obtaining joint-interest images from all VI, PA, and COMCAM sources. Pages here describe how to submit images for inclusion in the DoD current imagery collections as well as for consideration for insertion into the permanent record of the DoD and United States.

DoD Style Guide

This document contains the most up to date version of the DoD VI Captioning Style Guide. Following the contents of this guide will provide the best captions possible and make it easier for editors to post submitted imagery quickly.

VISION ID

Identity theft rises each year and in 2009 it rose by 22% over the previous year. To address this issue the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directed that federal agencies reduce or eliminate the use of Personally Identifying Information (PII). Partial SSNs were defined as PII and since the Visual Information Record Identification Number (VIRIN) uses a portion of the SSN, it needed to change.

VI Policy

This page has links to the DoD-level policy and procedure documents concerning Visual Information. It also has links to selected VI-related, DoD-level forms and other publications. These are the latest versions of each document, including all approved interim changes. Finally, there's a link to the entire DoD inventory of on-line Directives, Instructions, Forms, Manuals and other issuances.

Joint Visual Information Concept of Operations

The Joint Visual Information Concept of Operations (VI CONOPS) explains the Joint VI enterprise concept by sharing procedures, doctrine, proven processes, case studies, lessons learned and VI-planning templates. The Joint VI CONOPS is intended to be a road map to inform, transform, standardize and strengthen DoD imagery processes at every level. The timely release of relevant, compelling imagery can be a strategic asset for decision-makers when deliberately planned and coordinated.
