Video PSA: Bring a Health Advocate to Appointments

Doctor: The good news is, your ankle has healed nicely, but I’m a bit concerned about some of your test results…(fades out)

Patient: Concerned. Concerned? What does she mean by concerned? That can’t be good.

Doctor: …make sure that it’s nothing more serious…(fades out)

Patient: I should write this down. Oh, where are my glasses? What if it’s serious?

Doctor: …back here in a month…(fades out)

Patient: What? What did she just say?

Daughter: Don’t worry, Mom, I’ve written it all down.

Patient: You must have been reading my mind, Darlene.

Narrator: Be prepared. Bring a family member or friend to your medical appointments. Get the brochure at ahrq.gov/consumer.
