threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment.
Local affiliates, organized primarily through volunteers, provide funding
to community breast health services where needed and enhance existing services.
Affiliates educate the public about the importance of early detection through breast
self-examination and mammograms. Komen affiliates sponsor Race for the Cure
events throughout the nation. Proceeds from these races fund education programs,
mammography screening, and treatment programs for medically underserved women
