President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve.

The Honor Roll's Presidential Award is the highest federal recognition an institution can receive for its commitment to community service.

Announcement of the 2013 President’s Honor Winners

The winners of the 2013 President’s Honor Roll will be announced at the American Council on Education’s annual meeting March 2-5, 2013 in Washington, DC.

To Apply

The application process for the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is closed. Sign-up to receive information about the Honor Roll throughout the year and learn when the 2014 application process will begin. For more information about the President’s Honor Roll, see the General Fact Sheet.

Honor Roll Recognition

Presidential Awards are granted to three (3) institutions in each of two categories.

Honor Roll with Distinction recognizes applicants that display strong levels of institutional commitment, provide a compelling case for partnerships that produce a measurable impact in the community, and have a Federal Work-Study community service percentage of 15 percent or above.

Honor Roll is granted to institutions whose service described is deemed substantial, relevant and meaningful, and achieves measurable impacts in the community.

Eligibility

All accredited degree-granting colleges and universities in the United States are eligible to apply. Colleges and universities participating in the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program must meet the statutory 7 percent minimum FWS community service requirement. Previous applicants must apply each year.

Benefits for Institutions

By being admitted to the President’s Honor Roll, your institution will be recognized by the President of the United States as a leader and role model in community service for the higher education sector. It will help to:

  • Recruit students to attend your institution
  • Gain recognition for your institution’s commitment to service
