Hurricane Hugo is shown the day before landfall from the GOES-7 satellite, September 21, 1989 at 4:00 pm EST. Hugo ranks number 8 on a list of costliest mainland-falling hurricanes, number 11 most intense, was the only category 4 hurricane to make mainland landfall in the '80's and resulted in causing 5 lives to be lost.
