Flash Floods Kill 500 in Brazil

CNN has reported that 500 people are dead in the town of Teresopolis, Brazil (near Rio de Janiero) following floods caused by heavy rains the past two weeks. An estimated 10+ inches of rain have fallen in the past two days in that region. Shown here is the satellite-based rainfall estimate from January 12-14 using sensors onboard NOAA, NASA, and US Air Force weather satellites. Like the flood situations in Australia, Brazil has been inundated with seemingly non-stop rains since the begining of 2011.
