The Low-Rate Information Transmission (LRIT) System

The LRIT broadcast is operational on both GOES-13 (GOES-East) and GOES-11 (GOES-West) spacecrafts. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) continues to concentrate its efforts on upgrading ground system robustness and monitoring activities. Future development of the LRIT system will be defined through increased utilization and community outreach activities. NOAA will continue to work on the provision of a combined HRIT/EMWIN broadcast on the upcoming GOES-R series of satellites.

From the tabs at the top of this page, a brief description of the LRIT system and a product listing can be found under the “About LRIT” tab; a more technical description under the “Systems Specification” tab; and a selection of downloadable software is included under the “Software” tab. A FAQ tab is also provided. Under the "Testing" tab, a selection of images can be found and the "Notices" tab contains a link to special bulletins and notices and an updated area where further explanations can be found.
