502d MSG Commander’s Welcome Statement

Welcome to Fort Sam Houston. Fort Sam Houston is located in the heart of San Antonio and has a history of providing installation support and services dating back to 1845. Fort Sam Houston is supported by the 502nd Mission Support Group formally known as the U.S. Army Garrison.

The Fort Sam Houston 502nd Mission Support Group is responsible for providing all aspects of installation support and is committed to providing installation services that support Service Members and Family readiness offering a quality of life that matches their service to our Nation.  The 502 Mission Support Group will continue to provide a safe, quality living and working environment for thousands of Military, Civilians and Families here at Fort Sam Houston, today and in the future.

The 502nd Mission Support Group was originally established as the 502nd Support Group on 1 Sep 1992, activated on 1 October 1992, and inactivated 1 October 1994, all at Maxwell, Air Force Base, Alabama.  The 502nd Support was re-designated as the 502nd Mission Support Group on 28 July 2009 and officially activated as the 502nd Mission Support Group, 502nd Air Base Wing on 30 April 2010 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in accordance with the Base Realignment and Closure Commission directive.

Today, Fort Sam Houston is known as the "Home of Military Medicine", providing space for a major medical treatment facility, medical research and education activities, as well as medical training and operations commands supporting worldwide Army medical care for Soldiers and their families.

The 502d Mission Support Group supports the national defense missions of more than 90 tenant commands and activities on Fort Sam Houston.

We are proud of our history and many initiatives that maintain Fort Sam Houston as a Joint Base installation of the future.
